We photographed Dorothy for years as a dancer at her mom and dad’s dance school, Connecticut Concert Ballet. Dorothy is a beautiful dancer, a sweet, tiny little thing and is absolutely obsessed with makeup art! She did her own hair and makeup for the first half of the photo shoot (all the way through the hippie/fairy images.) Dorothy was accepted to an out-of-state dance program for the Summer – a big step for a little girl. So we started off at the train station in Windsor, CT, creating an editorial on her journey away from her parents to pursue ballet.
After a short break at a yummy roadside grill, we headed into West Hartford for hair and makeup by Elise O’Mara at Top Level Salon. Dorothy knew so much about makeup that she held her own in a conversation with Elise! It was absolutely adorable. For this final look, we were going for a surreal lengthening of her already-tall-and-super-lean figure. We found a great adult-sized dress at a thrift shop that hugged her body perfectly, helping make the appearance of a dress that was made just for her. Propping her up on a stool completed the look we were going for.
Dorothy knocked this photo shoot out of the park! She followed direction perfectly and, mixed with her own personality, made this set of little girl fashion photography our new fav!
We know these girls… and we know they have a love/hate relationship. When they asked for funky family portraits, we decided to have a little fun with it. The image above was amazingly captured in one shot thanks to Sarah’s amazing jump and Rachel’s perfect timing! We can’t wait to work with them again in the Autumn for beach family portraits with Dad this time. [wink]
On the day of the scheduled shoot, it rained and rained… and rained. No problem! We knew just where to go for some cover with style – downtown Hartford! We started inside the building at Top Level Salon where Sarah had professional hair and makeup done by the fabulous Elise O’Mara! Then we headed downtown to the Riverfront, battled the chill and rain and came up with these amazing images!
We first met Becky years ago when we were photographing a ballet by Connecticut Concert Ballet. She stole our hearts. Her beauty, strength and control makes her a star on the stage. So when the opportunity came up for us to photograph her off stage, we jumped on it! Working with this sweet, urban ballerina made our day. So humble. So amazing.
High School senior, Marissa, is a ballet dancer at Connecticut Concert Ballet, whom we work with often. So we weren’t surprised when she came to us, looking for high end fashion styled high school senior portraits. We were anxious to get her in the city to show off her stuff. Wow! How amazing she looks! Mom & Dad definitely had a hard time choosing their favorites.
Sharon and Mollie are very good friends of ours and have watched as our images went from standard portraits to beauty and fashion. They talked about and planned their perfect mother daughter photo shoot for almost a year! Finally, we scheduled a special mother daughter shoot with them and… wow! We were amazed by how stunningly they photographed. Take a look at young Mollie – dark and beautiful – breath-taking. And Sharon, who argued she was too old for this stuff, fell right in line. Look at those curves! What better way to celebrate their relationship than with gorgeous, personal image art to decorate their walls!
Jake is a pretty cool young guy who really likes to play guitar! And he’s good. Check him out at www.jakekulak.com. We wanted this photo shoot to be something that really fit his style. So for his portraits, we brought him to one of favorite spots in downtown Hartford. We love the mix of gritty and natural.
We’ve enjoyed photographing Kylie several times now so when she came to us in need of a model portfolio update, we were super excited! This was one of our favorite models in one of our favorite locations. The constant drizzling rain didn’t stop us. In fact, overcast days are the best possible lighting for photo shoots. We even got permission to shoot on a private boat that happened to be docked nearby.
